[Shopify Masters] From Idea to Impact: How Zachary Quinn Built Oceanfoam

Welcome to the world of Oceanfoam, where innovation meets sustainability in the form of the first foam roller made with algae. Zachary Quinn, our visionary founder of Oceanfoam, recently joined the Shopify Masters podcast to share his journey from concept to creation.

Learn about his tested strategy for turning an idea into an incredible product:

  1. Keep a Running List of Ideas: Regularly update and review your list of ideas. Focus on those that repeatedly catch your interest, as these are likely worth pursuing. For Zachary, his consistent use of foam rollers and a desire for eco-friendly options led him to create a product that addresses both personal and environmental needs.

  2. Define Your Mission: Establish a clear mission for your company to guide product development and decision-making. Zachary aimed for Oceanfoam to be a sustainable brand linked to ocean conservation. Although his initial plan to use recycled ocean plastic wasn’t feasible, he found a suitable alternative in algae-based materials.

  3. Test Samples and Find the Right Partners: Experiment with different samples and collaborate with reliable partners. Zachary worked extensively to find a manufacturer that could meet his specifications and align with his vision, ultimately selecting one that helped create high-quality foam rollers with 15% algae content.

  4. Design for Everyday Use: Ensure your product is both functional and visually appealing. Zachary designed Oceanfoam rollers to be aesthetically pleasing, reflecting the beauty of ocean waves, so they would be a desirable addition to any space rather than just a functional tool.

As Oceanfoam continues to make waves in the fitness industry, Zachary’s story serves as a reminder that with the right approach, even the most ambitious ideas can become a reality.
