A Behind-the-Scenes Look: How Oceanfoam Rolls on Algae Power

In February 2024, we took a fascinating journey to Havana, Florida, where we visited AECOM, our trusted partner in algae harvesting. This tour offered an exciting glimpse into the three-step process that transforms algae into our eco-friendly and sustainable products. At Oceanfoam, we’re dedicated to making a positive impact on our planet by cleaning our waterways and air, and our partnership with AECOM plays a crucial role in this mission.

Our Algae Harvesting Process

Our eco-friendly foam rollers are made with algae using a three-step harvesting process. Here's how it works:

Step 1: Conditioning
The process begins in a tank where a conditioning agent is added to the algae. This step causes the algae to clump together, making it easier to manage.

Step 2: Polymer Addition
Next, the algae is transferred to a second tank where organic polymer is introduced. This creates algae clouds, further aiding in the separation process.

Step 3: Separation
In the final tank, micro bubbles are used to separate the algae from the water. The algae rises to the top, where it is skimmed off and collected.

Once the algae is harvested, the clean water is returned to the pond, ensuring minimal environmental impact.

From Algae to Oceanfoam Rollers

After harvesting, the algae undergoes further processing. It is pumped out, dried, powdered, and formed into pellets by Bloom. These pellets are then used to manufacture our Oceanfoam rollers.
